Thermal Conversion of Cannabinoids in Hemp Flower: Decarboxylation Kinetics and Potential Accumulation of Δ(9)‑Tetrahydrocannabinol.

ACS Omega · 2026 Oct 20 · PubMed

English: In a laboratory study, researchers examined how cannabinoids in hemp flower change under heating at temperatures relevant to vaporization (up to 230°C). The study reported that CBDA converted rapidly and almost completely to CBD within one minute at 230°C, while total CBD content declined by up to about 58 percent at the highest temperatures. The researchers observed no meaningful increase in THC across the tested hemp material, though some CBN formation occurred instead.

Athletes and Medical Staff in Elite Contact Sports: a Quantitative Analysis of Use, Knowledge, and Attitudes Regarding Cannabinoids.

Sports Health · 2026 Oct 21 · PubMed

English: In a survey-based study, 166 elite contact-sport athletes and 64 medical and training staff in Canada, the United States and Australia were asked about their use, knowledge and attitudes regarding cannabinoids. The study reported that most athletes had used cannabinoids and believed in a therapeutic value, but that knowledge of pharmacology and dosing was low among both athletes and staff, and that stigma hindered open communication. The researchers concluded there is a strong need for education and clearer cannabinoid policies in elite sport.

Gap-Free Cannabis sativa Assemblies Reveal Post-Polyploid Genome Remodelling and Refine the Evolution of Cannabinoid Synthase Genes.

Plant Biotechnol J · 2026 Oct 22 · PubMed

English: In a genomic study, researchers produced two new, complete (gap-free) Cannabis sativa genome assemblies to map how the genome changed after ancient whole-genome duplication events and how cannabinoid synthase genes evolved. The study reported that today's cannabinoid synthase genes trace back to an older gene duplication shared with the related genus Humulus (hops), and that these genes subsequently expanded and specialized in Cannabis but not in Humulus. The researchers state the results provide a new reference framework for understanding the genetic origins of cannabinoid biosynthesis.

Effects of cannabidiol (CBD) oral solution in patients undergoing bilateral total knee arthroplasty: a randomized, controlled, parallel, triple blind, pilot study.

J Pain · 2026 Oct 22 · PubMed

English: In a small randomized, placebo-controlled pilot trial, 36 patients undergoing bilateral knee replacement surgery received either placebo or 400 mg or 800 mg of oral CBD solution around the time of surgery. The study reported no statistically significant difference in opioid use versus placebo in the primary analysis, but a secondary analysis showed lower opioid use and lower pain scores in the 400 mg group, while the 800 mg group showed no such effect and had more side effects along with higher anxiety and depression scores. The researchers describe the findings as a possible preliminary signal that requires confirmation in larger trials.

Clobazam Use in Epilepsy: An Old Story with a New Twist. A Narrative Review.

Neurol Ther · 2026 Oct 22 · PubMed

English: This is a narrative review article about the epilepsy drug clobazam, its pharmacology and clinical use, particularly in difficult-to-treat epilepsies such as Lennox-Gastaut and Dravet syndromes. The article describes, among other things, that cannabidiol (CBD) can inhibit an enzyme (CYP2C19) that breaks down clobazam, which may enhance the drug's effect but also requires dose adjustment when CBD and clobazam are used together. The authors conclude that clobazam remains a useful drug but that combination treatment needs to be individualized.

Cannabidiol Regulates Amyloid-β Plaque Deposition and Astrogliosis in the 5xFAD Transgenic Mouse Model.

J Mol Neurosci · 2026 Oct 22 · PubMed

English: In an animal study, researchers examined the effect of cannabidiol (CBD) on brain changes in 5xFAD mice, a genetically modified mouse model of Alzheimer's disease. The study reported that CBD treatment was associated with reduced amyloid-beta plaque burden and reduced astrocyte activation (a marker of inflammation) in the mice's brains, along with altered expression of certain cannabinoid and signaling receptors. The researchers emphasize that this is an animal study concerning biological markers in mice, not a clinical effect in humans.

Modulation of postictal hypoxia: Sex- and route-specific effects of acute and chronic cannabidiol and Delta(9)-tetrahydrocannabinol.

Neuropharmacology · 2026 Oct 23 · PubMed

English: In an animal study in rats, researchers examined how CBD and THC, given by vaporization or orally, affected the brain oxygen deficiency that occurs after seizures (postictal hypoxia), and whether the effect differed by sex and between acute and long-term (28-day) treatment. The study reported that vaporized CBD acutely reduced postictal hypoxia in both sexes and that oral THC did so in male rats, but that the effect partially diminished (tolerance) with long-term daily treatment. The researchers conclude the findings are preliminary animal data pointing to complex, sex- and route-dependent effects that warrant further study.

Impact of cannabis use and cannabis composition on formal thought disorder and related brain networks: An fMRI study in 51 patients with schizophrenia.

Schizophr Res · 2026 Oct 23 · PubMed

English: In an fMRI study of 51 patients with schizophrenia, researchers investigated whether cannabis use and the ratio of THC to CBD in the cannabis used were linked to formal thought disorder (a core symptom of schizophrenia) and to functional connectivity between certain brain regions. The study reported no statistically significant difference in brain connectivity between cannabis users and non-users, and found that the THC/CBD ratio was not associated with thought disorder or connectivity in this sample. The researchers call for larger studies that account for cannabis composition and dose-response relationships.
